Obituary of Robert Raymond White

Robert (Bob) White, 94, passed away on February 16, 2024. He was born on January 3, 1930, in Akron, Ohio. He is predeceased by his parents, Russel and Catherine (née Walczak) White, and his brother, Donald L. White.

Robert graduated from Buchtel High School, Akron, Ohio, in 1948, where he ran both cross-country and track. He specialized in both distance running and sprints. He achieved success in track and field and loved to show people his favorite track clipping from the Akron Beacon Journal.

He met Janet in 1946 and they were married June 4, 1950. They were married 73 years.

Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1948. He was initially placed in the Tank Company, 3rd platoon, at Ft Meade Maryland. He took communications training at Ft Knox, Kentucky. In Korea, he was promoted to Communication Chief, 24th division, where he proudly attained his Master Sargent rank.

Robert was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), a United States Army military decoration, for his service in the Korean Conflict. His CIB was special to him because it was awarded for performing duties while personally present and under fire.

In 1964, the White family moved to Florida where they lived in Clearwater. He was in sales and a small business owner, eventually retiring with Janet to Palm Harbor.

Bob was proud of his family and in addition, he liked a good cappuccino, loved cookies and, chocolate, enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch, and working jigsaw puzzles.

Robert is survived by his wife, Janet; three daughters, Diane Lynne White, Linda Ann Miller, and Karen Marie Adams; two grandchildren, Megan Rebecca Adams, and Eric Reid Adams; and one great grandson, Arlo Michael Adams.
